What is a Concours d’Elegance?
A Concours d’Elegance (from the French meaning a competition of elegance referring to the gathering of prestigious cars) is a gathering of automobiles in specifically defined division and classes strictly judged on their appearance, authenticity, and condition and cleanliness. This is a day spent in the company of other Jaguar enthusiasts, and you have the opportunity of doing what Jaguar owners like to do: talk about their pride and joy! Every Jaguar is beautiful, and every Jaguar wants to be in the company of others.
What are the judged classes?
In Champion Division the exterior, interior, engine compartment and the boot (trunk) are judged for authenticity, condition and cleanliness. In Driven, the engine compartment and boot (trunk) of the cars are not judged, and rules regarding authenticity are not quite as strict as they are for “Champion Division” cars. But in both the Champion and the Driven division, the owner’s preparation of the car is important – anything that is seen must be clean and, ideally, in a condition as close to new as possible. The Special Division is for non-original production cars. And if the owner chooses to participate in other JCNA Concours events elsewhere, the scores obtained will make the car eligible for Regional or North American awards. Enthusiast entries are not formally judged, scored, or given any competition points. However, Enthusiasts participation does qualify them for any unofficial awards like the people's choice. Please note, all entrants must be driven into position on the field (not towed there).
Champion Division
Champion Division is the most demanding JCNA Concours Division. It challenges its Entrants to research, prepare, and present the judged portions of their cars in their original, authentic, factory-delivered configuration, and condition (see Chapter VI in the “Rule Book” for allowable exceptions). All Entries in Champion Division will have their interiors, exteriors, engine compartments, and boots judged for authenticity, condition, and cleanliness. There are two Preservation Classes in the Champion Division for unrestored or near original entries. One for cars 20-35 and one for over 35 years old. Towing or trailering to the event is allowed.
Driven Division
Driven Division also challenges its Entrants to research prepare, and present their Entries in their original, authentic, factory-delivered configuration and condition. However, Driven Division is for Jaguars that, regardless of age, are in regular use. In consideration of this usage, Driven Division Entries do not have their engine compartments or boots judged and certain convenience and safety related authenticity exceptions are allowed. The exteriors and interiors of Driven Division Entries are judged to the same standard as Champion Division. Driven Division Entries that are less than 35 years old must be driven to the event. Driven Division Entries that are 35 years and older are encouraged to be driven under their own power from their normal place of garaging to the Concours site but towing or trailering to the event is allowed for these older Entries.
Special Division
Special Division is intended for factory and non-factory-prepared competition and limited production Jaguars; production Jaguars privately prepared for competition; modified production Jaguars, and Jaguar powered vehicles with replica Jaguar bodies. The interior, exterior, engine compartment, and boot of Special Division Entries are judged only for condition and cleanliness, NOT for authenticity. Towing or trailering to the event is allowed.
Enthusiast Entries
Enthusiast entries are not judged. It is for people that would like to park on the field and be able to display their car without competing. These entries will not be eligible for any JCNA awards but may count as credit towards the Fred Horner Sportsman Award. And Enthusiast Entries do quality for unofficial awards like the People’s Choice.
Awards
Awards will be given out at the Banquet Dinner. Entrants competing in 3 or more JCNA Concours are eligible for a North American award. JCNA awards are determined by averaging the Entrants 3 highest scores during the Concours year. If an Entrant’s 3 highest score average does not position it among the top three places of its class, then the Entrant’s 2 highest scores are evaluated for a Regional Award.
